what is myotherapy?
Myotherapy, is a specialized Bachelor of Health Science degree, which utilizes standard methods of assessment, such as orthopaedic, neurological, sensory/motor, and functional testing to determine the cause of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.Myotherapy utilizes clinical-evidence-based practices and advanced manual therapy techniques such as myofascial release, dry needling, joint mobilization, electrotherapeutics, functional taping, and rehabilitative exercise to effectively alleviate and manage musculoskeletal pain while addressing the contributing factors that led to the development of the complaint. What to Expect During Your Session
clinical assessment
- Subjecting and Objective data - Examination of a particular region- Orthopaedic testing and palpation- Special and Functional testing- Anatomical, physiological and pathological knowledge- A working diagnosis and treatment planHOLISTIC APROACHBy applying up-to-date evidence-based practice scientific approach we can effectively reduce and manage musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction with techniques such as:- Myofascial release- Dry needling- Joint mobilisation- Myofacial cupping- Electrotherapeutics- Taping and- Rehabilitative exercise prescription.MANUAL THERAPY TECHNIQUES
myofascial release
Fascia is the ground substance that interconnects all bones, muscles, nerves, organs, and tissues, in which injury or tension within one area of the fascia can result in pain and dysfunction at a distant point. Myofascial release (MFR) uses gentle low-load, long-duration stretching and massage to release fascial tension, and its frequently used to treat chronic pain and restore normal range of motion and function following a variety of musculoskeletal injuries.dry needling
Dry needling is a skilled technique used to manage musculoskeletal injuries, pain, and movement dysfunction. A highly effective technique that can be incorporated to speed-up the healing process of a tissue, decrease muscle hypertonicity, pain, increase range of movement, and correct movement dysfunction.JOINT MOBILISATION
Joint mobilization is a manual technique directed to the patient's joint, where the clinician imparts low-velocity passive movement such as glides and distractions. The goal is to relieve pain or improve range of motion by improving joint play and restoring the roll and glide arthrokinematics of the joint.myofascial cupping
Myofascial cupping uses suction cups that create a negative pressure or vacuum over a specific area of the skin, which creates suction that pulls the muscles and tissues. This increases blood flow to the area, stretches and loosens up the tissues, and helps reducing pain and restriction of movement.electro dry-needling
Electro Dry Needling involves attaching cables to the needles which also attach to an Electro Stimulation Machine. This sends a small pulse through the needle into the tissue and is excellent for reducing pain. ELECTRO DRY NEEDLING CAN EFFECTIVELY TREAT: - Neural pain (nerve pain) - Muscle spasticity - Joint stiffness, disc pathologies - Ligament and tendonitisFUNCTIONAL TAPING
Kinesiology tape provides support, improves circulation, reduces pain and swelling. Whilst Rigid tape offers strong support and stability to joints, reducing the risk of excessive movement and further injury.Rehabilitative exercise &
clinical pilates
Progressive mechanical loading has been found to be an effective management strategy for musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction, where different modes of strength training, including isometric, isotonic, eccentric, and isokinetic can be used to control pain, improve motor control, and enhance function in pathological tissue. Generally, the rehabilitation exercise process should include aspects of load management, education, progressive mechanical loading, treatment of kinetic chain deficits, and a graded return to activity.Clinical pilates exercises can be incorporated into rehab programs to address specific movement dyscunction. A safe and effective way to exercises not only for rehab, but general health and fitness without fear of re-injury Clinical Pilates teaches you a sense of body awareness that is highly valuable in many other forms of exercise beyond the clinical setting.
